PE (Physical Education)

At SJSC, we provide a PE curriculum that actively engages and supports pupils from Reception to Year 6.

Children experience a range of activities that develop their health, fitness and well-being. PE is taught to embed a love of physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Children become resilient, ambitious learners who strive to better their physical and mental capabilities.

In participating in a range of sports activities, children also develop their self-esteem and self-confidence.

At SJSC we offer a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities for life.

PE in Action

At SJSC the PE curriculum is structured to provide a range of sporting, physical and mental experiences.

Daily, every child participates in these experiences, developing their skills and learning through competitive, team and individual sports.

Children strengthen their mental capacity in order to participate in a range of physical activities and every child is given an opportunity to participate in competitive and non-competitive sporting events.

PE and Sports Funding

The Government has set aside funding of £150 million per annum each academic year to provide new, substantial primary school sports funding. The funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – is to improve the provision of PE and school sport and is allocated directly to primary schools. Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sports activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.

At SJSC, PE and school sport play a very important part in the life of our school. We believe that they contribute to the holistic development of our children and through participation, our children build on and learn more about our key values.
