Summer term Issue 11: 7th July 2023

Dear SJSC community

It was wonderful to see so many families and friends attending the Year 2 Great Fire of London Exhibition on Tuesday. Using projects such as this motivates the children to give their best in their learning and gives them a stage to show off their achievements. They did a fantastic job - well done Year 2!

Year 1 enjoyed a visit to the wildlife garden where they explored bug habitats.

Year 5 performed at an amazing Samba Drumming concert for the community on Goose Green. The children have learned brilliant drumming skills this term and made us proud.

Year 3 visited the Natural History Museum, where our mini scientists and geologists enhanced their learning on volcanoes and earthquakes.

A huge thank you to the SJSC staff team for being so passionate about the children’s experiences and making learning meaningful.

Next week we have our transition sessions where children will visit their new classes and meet their new teacher. A letter for parents will follow these.

Take a look at the Friends of SJSC Plusrooms campaign at the end of the newsletter.

In the meantime, have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Alli Crank Joseph Bell

Upcoming Diary Dates

Year 2

This week Year 2 shared a fabulous Great Fire of London Exhibition. Thank you to all the parents who came in to share this wonderful portfolio of work.

Here are some photos and a video from the exhibition.

Year 3

On Monday, Year 3 were very lucky to visit the Natural History Museum to extend their learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. First, we visited the earthquake and volcano room where we saw the casts of a person and a dog from Pompeii and had a virtual experience of an earthquake. Then, we had a 45 minute special class where the children deepened their knowledge about how earthquakes and volcanoes happen and how we measure them. Luckily Barbie survived all of the eruptions!

Year 5

On Thursday afternoon, the whole of Year 5 performed to the school and parents on Goose Green. We really enjoyed performing together, working to create our samba performance.

Have a wonderful weekend!
