Summer term Issue 8: 16th June 2023

Dear Families

We were pleased to welcome Ofsted this week, who spent time with us in school looking at all the fantastic work staff and children do in school. Ofsted will now work on their report and will let us know when this will be available for parents to read. In the meantime, we would like to take the time to thank our wonderful staff for their constant dedication, the governors for their support, and of course the children and parents in our community for their support and contributions.

It has been a very hot week this week! If the weather continues please remember to send your child to school with a hat and with sunscreen on.

It is our school summer fair tomorrow 12-3.30. Please try to pop by and have some fun whilst raising funds for the school.

Best wishes,

Alli Crank Joseph Bell

Upcoming Diary Dates

Reception

This week Reception have been using their positional language to describe spatial arrangements of objects. The children put things ‘’on top, bottom, the side of and in the middle’’ and had a hunt for hidden objects. In literacy, they been reading ‘Little Red’ by David Roberts which is a twist of the traditional tale. Little Red saves granny by feeding the wolf ginger beer to make him BURP granny out! We have enjoyed trying ginger beer and writing adverts to encourage others to buy the sweet, fizzy burp causing drink! The children are loving the outside area, so please (if you haven’t already) send them in with a named sun cream for us to keep in a box at school.

Year 1

In year 1, we have been learning about significant, historical individuals. We used drama to explore the emotions of not being able to have our say about things. We created freeze frames and acted out short clips in groups to imagine that we were in a suffragettes’ march. This all reinforced our writing as we then worked in groups to create and write banners with key messages and slogans about allowing woman to vote.

Year 2

This week in computing, Year 2 were looking at how music can be used in the world and how to create music on computers! Using Chrome Music Lab we explored how to create different pitches in our music and noticing how the sounds changed when we switched to alternative instruments. We had so much fun discovering all the different pitches and rhythms we could make by drawing line, triangles or circles! If any of your children wish to continue exploring this at home this is the link - https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/ Enjoy!

Year 3

Tranio, a character from our latest book called ‘Escape from Pompeii’, walked past all the children from Muriu class and listened to their wise words.  We advised him how to survive the coming eruption of Vesuvius.

Year 4

After lots of hard work and preparation on TTRS, year 4 have taken their Multiplication Check-ins this week with confidence and a determination to succeed! We’ve also been busy interpreting and presenting data using tally charts, pictograms and bar charts. Today, we collected information from our class mates, put them into a tally chart and then converted it into bar charts

Year 5

In Year 5, we have had a very busy week learning about fractions. We enjoyed using ‘pattern blocks’ to follow instructions for making wholes out of equal parts then created and wrote some of our ow examples.

Year 6

This week in year 6 we have begun our new science topic – animals including humans. We have been reviewing learning from previous years and we enjoyed looking at the different bones in the body and seeing how many we could recall! We also enjoyed exploring the digestive system! We used models of the body and information cards to build what knew of the digestive system. We are looking forward to discovering where the gall bladder is located!

Music this week…

This week, saw technology being used in some of the music lessons. Year 2 were starting to think about how a sound track can be made using a programme called Soundtrap and some Year 6 children were continuing to work on compositions using the tablets. Thanks again to the PTFA for funding this fantastic equipment.

Stars of the week

Stars are celebrated because they have demonstrated the school values, or gone above and beyond.
Well done to all our stars this week …
