Summer Term Issue 37: 11th July 2025
Flourishing in the love of God, love of life, love of learning
Dear Families,
What a joyful and energetic start to the week we had with our Fun Run at Peckham Rye Park! The children were absolutely brilliant—showing determination, resilience, and, most heartwarming of all, incredible team spirit as they cheered each other on around the track. A huge thank you for your generous fundraising and donations. These contributions will go towards enhancing our OPAL playground, updating sports equipment, and supporting parent BSL lessons run by the Hearing Resource Base. Special thanks to Beth Allen and Theo Evans for organising such a fantastic event!
We also had a wonderful time at our Sports Days this week. Our Reception children were stars in their very first sports day—full of enthusiasm and joy. By Thursday, the summer heat had well and truly arrived, but it didn’t stop Years 1–6 from enjoying a fantastic day of sports and fun. It was lovely to see so many families there, creating a real sense of community. A big well done to all the children for being such great sports, and thank you to the kind parents who helped with setting up and packing away—we truly appreciate your support. And of course, a big shout-out to Theo Evans once again for making it all happen so smoothly!
Today, you’ll have received your child’s end-of-year report—another end of year marker. The Senior Leadership Team always enjoys reading these as they beautifully capture each child’s journey and achievements over the year. They are a true celebration of every individual in our school.
Next week, it’s time for our Year 6 children to shine as they prepare to say goodbye to primary school. I’ve had a sneak peek at their production of Shrek, and I can promise—it’s going to be a treat! On Thursday, we’ll gather for the Year 6 Leavers’ Service at the church, starting at 9:45am. All are warmly welcome. The Lady Chapel will be reserved for Year 6 parents, and we’ll ensure there are plenty of seats available for everyone else.
Wishing you a restful weekend.

Upcoming Diary Dates
Reception
We are super proud of all the children in Reception this week, they excelled themselves at Sports Day and on our fun run- showing brilliant attitudes, cheering each other on and not giving up when things were tricky! We have been reading Izzy Gizmo about a little girl who never gives up when creating inventions to help people. We watched some videos of real life investors who made things to help animals and even a bionic Lego arm for a little boy. Then the children wowed us by building their own bionic arms ! We can see we will have some super inventors one day!
Year 1
Year 1 have had a very exciting week! We explored our different senses in Science. In English we planned our new story and made some fab changes to Yeti and the Bird. We’re working hard in Maths learning o'clock and half past on an analogue clock. We even tried our hardest in Sports Day and cheered on our friends! The children have blown us away with how well they are doing in their last couple of weeks in Year 1. Well done guys!
Year 2
Year 2 have been hard at work learning all about The Great Fire of London! From discovering how the fire started on Pudding Lane in 1666 to exploring how it spread and changed the city forever, the children have been fascinated by this important historical event. They’ve been busy turning their learning into some incredible pieces of writing and artwork, which will be proudly on display at our special exhibition on Wednesday. The children are so excited to welcome their special guests and share everything they’ve learned.
Year 3
This week, the clever children in Year 3 have been learning how to tell the time to the nearest five minutes using "to" and "past". In their fun and interactive maths lessons, students used real clocks and made their own paper ones to practise. They learned how to read times like "twenty-five past 3" and "ten to 6" with confidence. The children showed great progress and enthusiasm throughout the week. Telling the time is an important life skill, and Year 3 have made fantastic progress. Well done, Year 3 – time is definitely on your side!
Year 4
Year Four have had a busy but brilliant week! We’d like to begin by saying a huge thank you to Ms Allen and Mr Evans for organising such a fantastic Fun Run—and an even bigger well done to all our students for their amazing effort and enthusiasm. You made us proud! In RE, we’ve been reflecting on whether acts of kindness can ever be too small to matter. We also thought about what influences us to be change makers for the better. After some thoughtful and heartfelt discussions, the children concluded that all acts of kindness are important—because, as one student beautifully put it, “Kindness is kindness.”
Year 5
Year 6
Year 6 have been very fortunate to welcome two incredible visitors over the past couple of weeks, both bringing powerful and inspiring messages to help them on their journey into secondary school and beyond.
Firstly, Pastor Cadapen visited to speak about the Bible and how its teachings can help us through times of change and transition. He spoke thoughtfully about how different faiths can offer guidance and support, helping us to be kind, courageous, and understanding of others. The children enjoyed exploring big questions and reflecting on how they can use faith and values in their own lives
More recently, Nathanial spoke to the children about the dangers of gangs, giving the children important advice about staying safe, making positive choices, and surrounding themselves with supportive friends and adults. His honest and powerful message really made an impact on the children.
Music this week…
This week in music, Reception were thinking of animals that could represent dynamics. They had to act like tiny little mice when the music was Pianissimo (very soft) to a big, loud lion when the music was Forte (loud).
The highlight of the week was seeing the two Choirs perform to their parents and carers. It was a wonderful performance with tears (happy) and laughter. They all sang beautifully and I want to thank Lisa, Veronica and Naomi for all their support and hard work. A special mention to all the year 6 children who have been in Pop Choir since the very beginning and who have brought enthusiasm and joy to every Wednesday afternoon. I wish you all the best.
News from the Art Studio…
This week in the art studio Years 5 & 6 explored neurographic art. This is a meditative and intuitive artistic process that uses drawing to connect the conscious and subconscious mind. The process encourages a sense of clam and well-being. The Art studio was so quiet at times, you could hear a pin drop
Sports Update
Last night, our Year 6 netball team took part in a fantastic mini tournament with Heber Primary School and two teams from Peckham Allstars. It was amazing to see how much the standard of play has developed over the year. We were incredibly proud of how the girls played, showing such determination and resilience—especially in the heat!
A huge well done to Emily and Olivia, who were awarded Players of the Match!
Both Ali and I really hope they continue their netball journey into KS3. It was also wonderful to spot some of our ex-players now thriving at Peckham Allstars—what great role models for our younger players!
