Personal Development

‘Flourishing in the love of God, love of life, love of learning’

For us it is critical that every child flourishes both academically and personally so that they can succeed in life and become positive citizens.

We support our children to GROW and develop as individuals - to find their voice, interests and talents, and to develop a positive sense of self and character.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

The intent that drives our approach for positive mental health is synonymous with that of our PSHE & Wellbeing curriculum:

At SJSC, our aim is for every child to love themselves, love others and love the world they are in. This means developing children to become active members of society who: feel confident to critically challenge, champion and celebrate; are healthy members of society – physically, mentally and emotionally; are empathic.

This is because our curriculum provision is one of the tools we use to implement what we believe to be good practice for developing positive mental health for our children.

  • It is important to develop cultural capital for our children- broadening their world, inspiring them, and giving opportunity to link learning to real life.

Children experience a trip or visitor every half term. This is linked to their topic or text and enables them to fully immerse in their learning.

Children visit farms, zoos, museums, galleries, parliament, and wildlife areas. We welcome architects, scientists, artists, authors and MPs to speak with us at school. And we regularly visit places in our local area as part of field work and Forest School.

Year 4 work with chefs, year 5 spend a week on a working farm, and year 6 test their problem solving and resilience in an action packed week on an outward bounds residential.

Children sing and play musical instruments at a variety of venues - from local performances at the Church, nurseries, and care homes, to the Southbank Centre and The O2!

  • As well as high quality PE lessons children enjoy a wide range of sports opportunities, benefitting both physically and mentally. Children attend multi-sports events, our netball and football teams play across Southwark, and we have a wide range of after school sports clubs.

A highlight is Sport's Week when children enjoy a variety of different sports and even meet inspirational Olympians!

  • Many aspects of SJSC school life contribute to developing children's character in an inclusive environment, supporting the children to be ready for the next stage of their life. Click on the links below to learn more:
