Summer term Issue 39: 19th July 2024
Dear families
It has been a wonderful final week of this academic year.
Whilst it was an emotional Year 6 Leavers' service, it was one filled with celebration, joy and singing. We wish all of our leavers the very best in their next adventures and thank all of our leaving families for their support.
We have some team members who are also leaving, and wish them the very best of luck in their new roles. Thank you to Miss Cusack, Miss Washington, Ms Rastar, Miss Alsey and Stephanie.
You should have received an email with an end of year message, dates for your diaries next year, and information about the start of school in September. There will be signs and staff on hand to help everyone to find classes, and your children at pickup, in that first week back.
On behalf of all the team at SJSC we would like to wish you a restful and enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing everyone in September!

Reception
What an exciting year it has been… we are so proud of our wonderful Himid and Stik Class children. They have been super resilient and creative as they moved through our time together!
We have been looking back at photos of all the amazing things we have done, always trying to help the children become more independent in everything they do, from holding a pencil, pouring their own milk and washing up their own cups, to making sandwiches, having a go at spelling words by themselves, to composing their own stories and developing kindness, resilience and belief in themselves. Today, the children have been outside meeting their new plants… planted by Year 6 in their ‘Legacy Planting’ scheme organised by wonderful Sally. From now until they are in Y6 themselves, it is now their job to care for their own particular plant pot, keep them watered and nurtured. What a perfect ending!
We would all like to say thank you for your generous, thoughtful gifts and lovely cards, your kind words mean so much.
Have a lovely summer. Love from Miss Regaard, Miss Atkins, Miss Lily, Miss Holly and Mrs Davies
Year 1
What a wonderful year we have had in both year 1 classes! I have chosen my favourite picture of the class for our final newsletter because this was an incredible day which the children loved! Thank you to all our parents for your support this year – coming on trips, sorting reading books and encouraging mathletics – and everything else in between! Have a great summer from the Year 1 team.
Year 2
As we have been blessed with more glorious sunshine, year 2 decided they would get creative during their PE sessions. Children grouped together to create their own Olympics themed game which they had to carefully plan, design a kit and establish rules. Once this was completed, we then gathered their equipment and we made our way outside to test our games! Adults were in awe at the incredible creativity and had to get Ms Crank to join in who was also amazed! Well done everyone for such awesome teamwork creating possibly new Olympic games!
Year 3
Muriu and Gormley Class loved being Ancient Romans for the day. We dressed like a Roman, ate like a Roman and sang like a Roman! What fun!
We furthered our learning about Roman soldiers, the food Ancient Romans ate and Roman numerals in many creative and tasty ways.
Year 4
We’ve had an incredibly busy and exciting final week in Year 4! Our geography lessons on maps took a practical turn as we ventured into the great outdoors for some fieldwork at Peckham Rye Park. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring and applying their new skills in a real-world setting. The fun didn't stop there. We ended our school trip with some time at forest school with Miss Sally. As this school year ends, Mrs. Hare and Mr. Knight would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the children for their hard work and dedication. You have made us very proud! Have a restful and enjoyable summer break – you’ve certainly earned it!
Year 5
This week in English, Year 5 children have enjoyed publishing their narratives inspired by the text The Sleeper and the Spindle. We have been immensely impressed with the quality of these pieces of writing. The students have successfully integrated the language features and punctuation we have explored throughout this half term.
We wish all our children and their families a safe and happy summer holidays.
Year 6
What a week it has been in Year 6! Our children shone brightly as they performed their end-of-year production to an audience filled with proud families. The week was also marked by a heartfelt leavers service, where emotions ran high as we celebrated the journeys and achievements of our wonderful Year 6 pupils. Amidst the nostalgia, we balanced the week with many celebrations, including a playground picnic and fun-filled games outside, creating lasting memories for everyone involved. Here's to a fantastic end of the year and exciting new beginnings ahead!
Music this week…
A Week of Performances for the final week of Music Lessons.
Year 3 Gormley performed some Ukulele pieces for the Year 1 children, Year 3 Muriu performed in class to each other, and Year 5 Lichtenstein gave a recorder performance to Year 2 and Reception children. We also had some wonderful solo / small group performances in the Year 5 lessons.
The singing was wonderful in church, and everyone enjoyed the musicians who entertained as we waited for the service to start. Well done everyone!

News from the Art Studio…
This week in the Art studio, year 4 took over! They have worked so hard over the year and been so creative, this was time for them to get out any of the materials and mediums they wanted. There was sewing, fashion design, photography, digital art, junk modelling, Lego and stencil drawing. So wonderful to watch their creativity and see them put their knowledge and skills gathered over the year into practice.
Reading champions & Values Certificates
Stars are celebrated because they have demonstrated the school values, or gone above and beyond.
Well done to all our stars this week …
Update from the Friends of SJSC
Year end update from the Friends of SJSC
With the support of our volunteers and school staff, we’ve had a successful year
• We’ve raised over £15,000
• We’ve funded numerous enriching projects for all year groups
• We’ve organised and run 3 big events for the school community
All this relies on people power - our volunteers. To continue to do this work, we need new people for the 2024/25 school year. Please consider volunteering to be a class rep or a leadership role on our expanded committee. If you are interested or have any questions, speak to your current rep or email friendsofsjsc@gmail.com.
