Upcoming Diary Dates
Reception
This week Reception have been lifting up the log on mini-beasts! We have found out all sorts of fascinating facts… did you know that all insects are mini beasts, but not all minibeasts are insects? We have been busy counting legs, observing snails and making models and transient art about minibeasts. In maths we have been recognising where 5 is part of a bigger quantity, to help us count objects more efficiently. The children have really loved this chance to delve into non fiction books and play “Guess Who” with mini beasts.
We are off to Forest School next week where we will do a bug hunt and habitat investigation. Parent volunteers welcome, please sign up on the sheet or email Mrs Davies.
Next week we are off to visit the church and clean it! We would love some dusters or cloths please.
Year 1
This week in year 1, we have been identifying and labelling body parts of humans. Next week, we will be getting an exciting delivery of duck eggs. As part of our topic on lifecycles, we’ll be keeping a close eye for when they hatch and will get the chance to hold them and watch them in their first few days of life.
Year 2
This week in Year 2, we've been delving into the world of Maths with an exciting tool: Cuisenaire rods, also known as number rods! As young investigators, we've explored the fascinating relationships between these rods, discovering that when we arrange them in a staircase pattern, it signifies numbers increasing by 1 each time. This realisation sparked our curiosity and led us to create various number sentences using the rods. It's been an engaging and enjoyable experience for all of us!
Year 3
In RE, Year 3 are learning about Sikhism and what various symbols represent. In this lesson, we worked with our partners to create a ‘Diamond 9’ based on Sikh principles and values. We then re-did the ‘Diamond 9’ according to our own values.
Year 4
In year 4, we had our final Royal Academy of Culinary Arts cooking session with Chef Alice. Our session was all about the dough making process. First, using a scale, we measured out the necessary ingredients. Then, we mixed all the ingredients together until we had a sticky and glue-like consistency. After having a glue-like consistency, we kneaded our dough until it was to our liking before putting it into the fridge. Chef Alice even let us take our dough home and encouraged us to make pizza or a baguette. We had so much fun!
Year 5
This week in Yr 5, we have been writing a film pitch based on our text ‘The Whale’. We are writing our pitch for a highly successful executive producer to convince a film studio to make this book into a movie. Here is an example of a high-quality paragraph that was co-constructed by Lichenstien.
‘Excited and hopeful, we witness the children push their boats out onto the water as the moon fights the sun for a place in the sky. A steady silence lingers. The moon creeps into the sky. Watching the clear water turn into inky darkness, the children become uneasy and doubtful. A crescendo of unease fills the heavy air. It will be a long night’.

Year 6
Year 6 have been working so hard preparing for their exams this week, so we decided to take a well-earned break on Thursday afternoon to take some time to relax and play. We enjoyed ball games in the sun and had a great time unwinding.
Music this week…
Year 3 Children were composing their own 4 beat rhythms this week using a combination of semiquavers, crotchets, quavers and rests. The children remember these durations through the words “running faster”, “walk” , “jogging” and “shush”.
Having created a rhythm, they had to choose 3 notes which their composition would be played on.
Sports Update
Last night, our netball teams played Peckham Allstars.
I cannot tell you how proud we were of their performances. The progress they have made is immense and was even recognised by the other team’s coach. Well done to Apphia and Alayna for being chosen as players of the match. To be honest, if had been our choice, we couldn’t have chosen any individuals as every player performed so well.
Overall, we won two out of three games.
Thank you to all the parents who came to support the players. What a great atmosphere it created!
As always, a huge thank you to Ali for giving up her time to coach our girls. We really do appreciate you.
