Summer Term Issue 38: 17th July 2026
Flourishing in the love of God, love of life, love of learning
Dear Families,
We have come to the end of another incredible school year. As many of you will know from your own experience as parents, time seems to fly by, and it hardly feels possible that our children are already ready for the next stage of their journey.
Before we look ahead, it is important to take a moment to celebrate all that has been achieved this year. Our children make us proud every single day. It is a privilege to watch them grow in their learning, character and confidence, and to share in the fun, laughter and joy that fill our school. They continue to amaze us with their kindness, resilience and determination.
A special mention must go to our Year 6 children as they prepare to move on to secondary school. We wish them every success and happiness in their next steps. They leave SJSC with so much to be proud of, and we know they are more than ready for the opportunities ahead. They have been a blessing to our school community, and they will always remain a valued part of the SJSC family.
Thank you to all our parents and carers for the wonderful support, encouragement and trust you show our school. Your partnership makes such a difference and helps create the strong sense of community that makes SJSC such a special place to be.
Finally, thank you to the incredible staff team at SJSC. They are a pleasure to lead, and I am deeply grateful for their commitment, care and dedication to our children and families every day.
I wish you all a wonderful summer break filled with rest, fun and happy memories. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Thursday 3 September.
With warmest wishes,
Alli
News from Governors
What a fantastic last week of school!
Governors have been in school this week enjoying wonderful performances of Matilda, a fabulous exhibition on the Great Fire of London and an uplifting and emotional Y6 leavers service!
We also spent time with children at lunchtime and had training for the whole board supported by Pia Longman from the SDBE.
We would like to thank all children, parents and staff for all their work and support of the school over the last year and for making our school community such a special place.
To our Y6 leavers, congratulations on all you have achieved at SJSC and our best wishes for your future in your new schools, we are so proud of you all!
Year 1
It has been a fantastic last week in Year 1, full of creativity, showcasing all of our learning and being an audience in the Year 6 performance of Matilda!
In English, we have completed our fantastic final writing piece inspired by Yeti and the Bird. The children innovated the character of the yeti, creating imaginative descriptions while bringing together all of the writing skills that they have developed throughout the year. We have been so impressed to see them independently using expanded noun phrases, alliteration, capital letters, full stops and ambitious vocabulary. It has been so lovely to see just how far every child has come on their writing journey.
In Maths, we have been exploring position and direction, practising our understanding of left and right through practical games and partner challenges. The children loved giving each other instructions such as, "Move two steps to the right" and "Put your left hand on the red circle" developing both their mathematical language and teamwork.
As we come to the end of Year 1, we want to take the time to say just how incredibly proud we are of every single child. Each child has been on their own learning journey, and it has been a privilege to watch their confidence, resilience and love of learning grow throughout the year. They should all be so proud of everything they have achieved. Thank you for your continued support, encouragement and kindness throughout the year. It has been a pleasure continuing to get to know both the children and families, and we will miss them all very much. We know they are more than ready for Year 2, and we cannot wait to see them continue to flourish in the year ahead. We wish you all a wonderful, restful summer break!
Year 2
What an exciting week it has been in Year 2! We were so proud to share our Great Fire of London Exhibition with parents, carers and visitors. The children did an amazing job and have truly become history experts on the Great Fire of London! They loved guiding visitors around the exhibition, explaining their learning, and even taking other classes from across the school on tours.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the children and celebrate their hard work. Your encouragement means so much to them.
On behalf of the Year 2 team, we would also like to say what an incredible year it has been. We have shared so many wonderful learning experiences, exciting trips, special events and memorable moments together. Thank you to all our parents and carers for your continued support and help throughout the year.
We wish you all a wonderful summer break and look forward to seeing you again next school year! ☀️📚✨
Year 3
Year 3 have been continuing to investigate sound. We went into the playground to record the volume in decibels of different sounds and then carried out an investigation into volume. We measured different distances and the recorder how loud or quiet the sound was as we moved away. Although we realised our results were not very accurate, it was still lots of fun using all the different equipment!
Year 4
Year 5
And that’s a wrap! This week, year 5 have enjoyed a mini sports day – hurdles, egg and spoon, sprints and sack races! We’ve also been writing hilarious poetry inspired by Allan Ahlberg’s Please Mrs Butler, we’ve done a big end of year quiz about all of the books and facts we’ve learnt this year and now it’s time for the holidays. All the best over the summer and thank you for your support this year!
Year 6
Wow—what an incredible end to primary school for our Year 6! The celebrations began with truly wonderful performances of Matilda, delivered with such confidence and joy that they felt West End worthy. Year 6 then shone again during their sports day, tackling obstacle courses and running races with huge enthusiasm and plenty of smiles.
We closed this special chapter with a beautiful and heartfelt service in the church, marking the end of their primary journey. We are incredibly proud of every single one of them and wish them all the very best as they move on to their next adventure.
Music this week…
I wanted to wish all our pupils, parents and carers a very happy and relaxing Summer Break. This year has seen some wonderful musical events including Year 4’s trip to Young Voices, SongFest at Harris Academy, Year 5’s Finish This Project (see animation below) including a trip to the English National Opera, Samba on Goose Green, a visit from musicians at Alleyn’s School, the AMAZING Year 6 Production and our very own private performance of Hansel and Gretel by some wonderful parents. I look forward to making more music over the next academic year but for now, I am attaching a couple of recordings of PopChoir singing You’ll be Alright Kid and Somebody You Loved.
If you are looking for musical workshops over the Summer, please refer back to last week’s Newsletter.
